Q. Is it really necessary for me to go to the dentist every six months? ▼
A. Yes, every six months is recommended, because of how difficult it is for people on their own to get rid of all the plaque buildup that develops naturally. In some instances, if a person takes considerable care of their teeth and gums, the dentist might require yearly visits, but this is not the norm.
Q. What if I am (or my child is) scared of the dentist? ▼
A. It's rather natural to be nervous going to the dentist, although most people quickly realize that fear was unnecessary. Modernday advances in technology and approaches (including fluoride treatment) have lessened the need for intensive dental procedures. However, some people can't shake their fears. We respect that and can discuss with you the potential of a prescribed sedative to help make the process as comfortable for you as possible.
Q. What is your cancellation policy? ▼
A. One of the many advantages of going to an independent dentist is that our cancellation policy is friendly and flexible. We ideally would prefer a 48-hour notice prior to your cancellation. However, if you normally do not cancel, we respect that life sometimes gets in the way of plans, and we'll work with you. Repeated broken appointments without notice may however incur a fee.
Q. Do I really need to worry about my child's baby teeth? ▼
A. A big misconception about your child's oral hygiene is that you don't have to worry, as much, about baby teeth. However, cavities in baby (primary) teeth affect the tooth's root just as they do in adult teeth. Lost baby teeth can affect your child's alignment of teeth, affecting how adult teeth grow in. It's important, as well, that good oral hygiene habits be taught early, so that these become lifelong routines.
Q. Does smoking affect my teeth? ▼
A. Yes, without question, smoking has an adverse affect on your oral hygiene. Smoking has been linked to periodontal disease which is believed to also contribute to the increased risk of heart attacks and stroke. The ironic part of smoking's effect on your oral hygiene is that a smoker's gums are less likely to bleed than a non-smoker's. This often leads to denial of treatment in the early stages of periodontal disease when the disease is far more treatable.
Q. Do you take insurance? ▼
A. Yes, we accept most dental insurances and will process the paperwork and billing for you. Our office is a provider for Delta Dental, Altus Dental, Blue Cross Dental of RI, and most Blue Cross Dental plans of Massachusetts.
Q. Do I really need my wisdom teeth pulled if they don't bother me? ▼
A. Only after a thorough examination, including dental X-rays, will we be able to determine whether your wisdom teeth need to be removed. In some cases, these teeth can remain. However oftentimes the pain from impacted wisdom teeth don't show up until further down the road and it's best to take care of the problem before it worsens. Your dentist will also determine if your impacted teeth might move your other teeth and interfere with proper alignment.
Q. Do you offer teeth whitening? ▼
A. Yes, we offer a variety of teeth whitening options. From in-office treatment, which is the most effective, to at-home trays and more, we'll work with you to come up with the best solution to meet your needs.
Q. How do I determine which toothbrush is the “right” one for me? ▼
A. One can easily get lost among all the options, colors, shapes and sizes of toothbrushes found on the shelf. Studies show however that the most effective toothbrushes are the round-tipped motion brushes (rather than manual brushes). A common agreement among all dentists is that soft bristles are the preferred type of brush, as these brushes pose the least risk and harm to your gums.
Toothbrushes should be changed at least every three months, and many brushes these days have colored tips that begin to fade when the brush needs to be replaced.
Regardless of the brush you choose, a correct brushing technique is key. Our team will guide and instruct you on the best and safest way to brush your teeth.
Q. Can I budget my dental care? ▼
A. We do offer financing options and work exclusively with CARE CREDIT®. CARE CREDIT®. has liberal terms, allows up to 3 months interest-free for fees under $300, and up to 18 months interest-free for fees above $300. Please contact us directly for more information.
