Q. How do I know which toothbrush is the right one for me?
Different dentists may prefer different brands, but studies have shown that round tipped motion brushes seem to be more effective than manual types. All dentists will agree that the best brush is a Soft Bristle brush, reducing harmful wear on your gums. Also, brushes should be replaced at least every 3 months, or as soon as the bristles show wear. Many brushes have colored tips that begin to fade when the brush needs replacing.
Regardless of which brush you choose, correct brushing techniques, which our team will guide and instruct you on when you visit us, is key.
This completely depends on what your dentist sees when he/she reviews your dental x-rays. Some wisdom teeth can be impacted and without pain for a time, but eventually may cause pain in the jaw, and pressure from impacted teeth can move other teeth and interfere with proper alignment. This can cause also can cause problems in the future.
Your dentist will confer with you on his/her findings, and if necessary, refer you to an Oral Surgeon. It is important to know, surgery is only recommended when it is integral to your overall health.
Q. What happens if I miss a dental appointment?
We will work with you to accommodate your schedule to avoid this. We request a 48-hr notice of cancellation, but we do realize that, occasionally, emergencies occur preventing this. Repeated broken appointments without notice may incur a fee.
Q. Why worry about baby teeth?
Dental problems can begin early. Children with healthy teeth chew food easily and smile with confidence. Cavities in baby teeth, called primary teeth, are just as painful and dangerous to the root as adult teeth. Losing baby teeth to decay can cause alignment problems when other teeth shift, not leaving enough room for adult teeth to grow in properly. Sometimes, when these conditions are not checked, surgery may be necessary in the future. Prolonged thumb sucking can create crooked teeth or bite problems, as well.
When children learn good oral habits early, healthy mouths can prevent many medical issues related to poor dental hygiene.
Q. What’s the best way to brighten my smile?

Q. What causes gum disease?
When plaque hardens into tartar, the bacterium’s causing the process results in inflammation of the gums. If this goes untreated, the inflammation becomes further infected. This is another condition that can go on without pain for many years, until the infection causes damage to the bone and connective tissue that support the teeth. When periodontal disease goes unmanaged, it often results in loss of teeth.
Constant bad breath is often an early indicator of gum disease. Smoking has also been directly linked to gum disease. Our team will evaluate your periodontal health as part of your comprehensive exam.
Q. Does smoking affect my teeth?
Yes, definitely. Smoking has been linked to periodontal disease (gum disease). Periodontal Disease is believed to contribute to the risk of heart attack and stroke.
Smoking robs the body of essential nutrients that add to our natural immunity to disease.
Ironically, smokers’ gums are less likely to bleed as much as non-smokers. This can often result in denial of treatment early on, when the disease is more easily treatable, or even preventable. Smoking also causes staining, and worse, most patients diagnosed with oral cancer have used tobacco.
Q. Do you do root canals?

Q. What if I am nervous about going to the dentist?
Many people are nervous, and most find after their first visit, it was all for naught. Dental techniques have improved over the years, and with preventative measures can be pain free. Fluoride toothpaste has made a large impact on tooth decay and you may be surprised at how little treatment you need.
In some cases, patients may feel more comfortable with a prescribed sedative. This is something you can speak freely with us about. We understand that some people are afraid, and we will try to make your visit with us as comfortable as possible.
